The thieves broke into the churches by using explosives. After that, they blew up safes to make off with the money. Churches in Tienray, Melderslo, Hegelsom, Maashees and Odiliapeel were hit.

The thieves caused tens of thousands of euros in damages to the buildings. According to police, the gang always break in on Sunday night, when there has been a collection from the congregation. There is still no trace of the perpetrators.
