Never post a blog when you’re angry

And, being a big fan of that self-inflicted advice, I’ll have to write later on the shameful arts program cuts made by Harper’s sad, undemocratic, un-Canadian, dishonest, close-minded, elitist, morally bankrupt, over-zealous, bigoted, chauvinist, and ignorant excuse for a government.

Gosh when she said “un-Canadian, dishonest, close-minded, elitist, morally bankrupt, over-zealous, bigoted, chauvinist, and ignorant” I thought she was talking about the Art’s community. She also claims Harpers being undemocratic. Well gosh lets put it to a referendum in a democratic fashion.

You know where Belinda lectures us about the importance of single tier waiting lists then when she gets breast cancer she goes to California, Or Chretien takes his niece to Minneapolis. She also lies and says taxpayers haven’t slaved away at real jobs to fund porn.

Critics of the movie — entitled “Young People F—ing” — say the film is as racy as its title suggests and highlights everything that’s wrong with public funding of Canadian films.

The website for the film — which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year — promotes “YPF” as “a scathingly honest and hilarious portrayal of four couples, one threesome and a crazy night of sex. ”

Charles McVety, the president of the Canada Family Action Coalition, told CTV Newsnet’s Mike Duffy Live the film is nothing more than pornography and he’s outraged such films receive federal tax credits. McVety didn’t say whether he has seen the entire movie, but noted that he had “seen enough of the film” and that it was not “about growing tulips in the spring.”

If what they did was real art stuff people liked they could sell it could they not? Why does the CBC need public money to push their extremist views on us? They can’t even hold to the morals of like Mackenzie King. Will the eletists of the arts community subsidize small dead animals? Marginalized Action Dinosaur? Nope because I’m not a loopy lefty.

Ah, yes, letting a little time pass was the right thing to do. Now it’s time to elaborate a little on what I meant when I wrote the above paragraph.

“shameful arts programs cuts” - I stand by that statement. I believe it speaks for itself.

LOL, do they say that while pontificating over tax funded champagne? Down with Doctors and tanks! Up with taxpayer fuinded porn.

“sad” - I absolutely meant that any government who shows such disdain for the arts has reduced Canada to a very sad state indeed.

Is Rebbecca sad she will have to buy unsubsidized porn? Maybe if they could actually do something people thought it worth while to actually pay for, maybe then Canadians would hold them in less disdain.

“undemocratic” - attempts to give the heritage minister absolute power over arts funding were hidden in an amendment in the unrelated bill C-10; when that was discovered and sent back from the Senate, $45 million dollars of cuts in programs, such as the one that funds Hot Docs, were made without debate or consultation with the arts industry, but influenced greatly by right wing fundamentalist Christians such as Charles McVety. I believe that fits the definition of undemocratic, especially coming from a minority government.

Well gosh does the Canadian tax funded arts community not represent those very fundamentalist Christians because if there’s taxation without representation maybe we should throw some artists in the harbour.

“close-minded” - see above.

See arts community right wingers. We should want to see porn that people don’t want to pay for.

“overzealous” - see above.

See arts community right wingers.

“dishonest” - I believe the act of omnibus legislation and suggesting to Canadians that we are funding pornography or hate films (when none of our arts funding ever did that), in order to convince people we should hand the government unaccountable and absolute power over a group they are ideologically opposed to, is dishonest.

Here’s where she’s lying, see the para on Young People F—ing above. Yes my tax dollars do go to subsidize porn.but who needs doctors, right Rebecca?

The CBC doesn’t hate Christians? They don’t say Christmas during our national holiday. The reason for that dear Rebecca is they ooze hate. Drips out of the doors so to speak. theres a billion dollars we the people could save.

“elitist” - from the dictionary: “a person who believes that a system or society should be ruled or dominated by an elite”; and “a person who believes that they belong to an elite”. In the way Mr. Harper’s government has conducted itself towards the arts, such as attempting to give the heritage minister absolute power over arts funding, or cutting programs without consulting the arts community, in order to satisfy one small group who has made a sweeping and unfounded judgment about a very large and diverse group of people while claiming they themselves know what’s best is, yes, elitist. In my opinion.

Elitist to me are arts groups that abhor the majority of Canadians who are Christian. but demand their money for their rubbish.

“bigoted” - “obstinately convinced of the superiority or correctness of one’s own opinions and prejudiced against those who hold different opinions”. This is precisely what Mr. Harper and his ministers did when members of Canada’s arts community came to the Senate. When Sarah Polley spoke about the negative effect bill C-10 would have on the industry and the economy, the Conservatives responded by ignoring her actual statement and instead trying to brand her as some crazy left wing activist because she had participated in an NDP rally as a teenager, showing great disrespect to the girl from Avonlea, to show one of many examples. This is in stark difference to disagreeing with someone’s actions, which is what I am doing in this post. I, for instance, know that Mr. Harper and his cronies have the right to have their opinion, and to all the other rights and freedoms Canadians enjoy, but while I do not agree with them, nor do I think they should have enough power to force their beliefs and ideologies upon others.

Bigoted like the anti right wing stance of Canada’s arts community show me one arts project that shows that the majority of Canadians want the death penalty. That’s because they are a bunch of snobs who are out of touch with Canadians.

“chauvenist” - not really pertaining to the arts funding per se, but an ongoing trait of this government; women assigned to junior cabinet positions or traditionally “female” files, this noticeable minority within this minority government, yet always stacked behind the PM in the House of Commons in a PR stunt that is stunningly obvious.

Yeah well your party supporting affirmative action when men are more likely to be unemployed than women is one to talk. you wouldn’t let men apply for the RCMP or Public works that I know of, how many other secret memos were never made public?white males need not apply, no wonder your party has problems getting men to vote.

“morally bankrupt” - this is referring to the definition of moral as “standards of behaviour that are considered good or acceptable”. The standards of behaviour demonstrated by the government pertaining to the arts funding cuts (and many other portfolios and issues) has not been what I consider either “good” or “acceptable”. Hence the reference.

I bet Rebecca Finch supports abortion then she will figure after not giving children a choice, not giving the father a choice and not giving parents who want to adopt the child [who doesn't want to be killed] a choice, that she can ever hold moral high ground. 4 million dead, 2/3rds as evil as Hitler.

And lastly, “un-Canadian”. The Canada I know and love supports and honours our freedom of expression and the massive artistic talent honed in this country and marketed around the world. The recent actions of our government in regards to the arts have done neither of these things.

It has become fashionable to mock anybody who mentions censorship and to refer to authors such as James Joyce and D.H. Lawrence being victims of the censors: irrelevant and a distraction. And remember, the same sort of people who scream their protest at the idea of censorship tend to be the first to support human rights commissions when they limit our fundamental freedom of speech to criticize areas of social policy that involve life and sexuality.

A last comment about the arts community. There are definitely problems with arts funding that need to be addressed, and none of the solutions it craves includes funding cuts. Arts funding needs to be more available to emerging artists. Nepotism and cronyism needs to be investigated and eliminated. People who work in this industry (this industry that, by the way, injects over $4B into our economy per year) would love to be consulted on how to make it work better. But asserting more control by government and taking power away from the individual artists and programs is not what any of them would suggest, had they been asked. posted by Rebecca Finch

We pay a billion alone for CBC that I never watch. Thats before grants to immigrant artists in Montreal.

Not one of these people will vote Harper if he doubles the money taxpayers are wasting on the arts.
